Poster - Strike at the Root - 18" x 24"
This poster JPG is for printing yourself. In the US we use The Poster Place. Posters are about $10 each plus freight. Poster size is 18" x 24" at 150dpi with 1/4" bleed. We are using it in our own work with various organizations. Even if you don't plan to print it, it's a good read.
This poster contains everything an activist needs to know to develop a strong interest in Striking at the Root. It can also be used for an extensive discussion or presentation on the Analytical Activism approach, since the poster contains:
1. A complete argument on why Analytical Activism is superior to Classic Activism.
2. The Summary of Analysis Results in a an easier to read form.
3. A slightly improved causal chain Problem Solving Map.
Here's how the poster begins:
If we are to have any rational hope of solving the sustainability problem we must Strike at the Root.
Why? Because all problems arise from their root causes.
This is the most fundamental principle of science. It’s a restatement of the Law of Cause and Effect. Every effect has a cause.
It follows that the only way to solve a problem is to resolve its root causes. If you’re not working on root causes you’re not working scientifically.
So how do we find root causes? By root cause analysis. If it works for business it can work for activism. Below are the results of a seven year project whose sole purpose was to bust out of conventional thinking by Striking at the Root.
(For the rest see the poster.)
The Analytical Activist's Problem Solving Map
The poster contains the map shown to the right.
This is Thwink.org's most important diagram. It says it all. It says that if we stop at the superficial layer, as most have, we activists will be hacking at the branches of evil with superficial solutions.
That won't work. Instead we must apply root cause analysis so we can penetrate to the fundamental layer of the problem, no matter how hard that may be. Only then will our fundamental solutions be able to strike at the root.
There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil
to one who is striking at the root.
