We identify current best practices for software project management, presenting them in a way to help organizations easily adopt better ways. |
This document is in progress....
First have a good strategy - Here's a simple strategy for helping organizations optimize their project management. The most important recommendation is using a Defined Process. For that we recommend the Unified Process, which is a systematized collection of current best practices. The second most important suggestion is to have a Process Manager, aka Process Evangelist or The Great Expounder of Better Processness. :-)
Introduction to the Unified Process - This is a bit of a bear to swallow, so we have taken the time to summarize it very briefly for first timers.
Unified Process Evaluation - These are the Pros and Cons. It's really good, but needs downsizing so CMM Level 1 organizations can succeed quickly with it, and needs support for the full lifecycle, not just the project cycle.
A Simple Unified Process - The greatest risk in adopting a new process is it fails to work. We reduce that risk by "dumbing down" the standard Unified Process, tailoring it to a team of 10 on the average, introducing certain elements, and explaining it all clearly and simply. We present this as a framework for each particular project to tune a little bit further.
