The Illustrated How UHR Works ![]()
November 9, 1999
A picture is worth a thousand words....
These pages are designed to rapidly introduce UHR to someone who's completely new to it. We cover the main areas quickly so that you can see how it all ties together. The concepts shown are from the second generation implementation that Steve and Jack are working on. We have eliminated the "kernel" and are instead using a "self-referential tree" of cells and parts, with biological metaphors. This is an exciting journey.
This is a series of hand drawn, lighthearted illustrations. :-) File sizes average 80K. They are 750 by 590 pixels, so you probably need to size your browser to at least 1024 by 768 resolution, and may need to hide the buttons on your browser and maximize it.
Drawings were scanned with an HP6300C. Layout, text and special effects were done with Photoshop 5. Martha Harich did the artwork, Jack did the text, and we sure had fun designing it together. This collaborative effort, artist and scientist, seems to very effectively explain monstrous mysteries quickly. :-)
Please note that we are still creating all these pages - many are still rough layouts and we are experimenting. We are curious about your reactions and how we can make it better. Thanks already to Wayne Allen for his many suggestions.
